Quick updates and important note for METAL decks
over 1 year ago – Mon, Oct 10, 2022 at 04:11:01 AM

Hello everyone!

A couple of quick updates for you!

First off: There's been a bit of a hiccup with our metal cards. The manufacturer we ordered our blanks from initially told us they had the size we are looking for, but as it turns out, they sent us a card that is business card size, rather than playing card size. (You can see the difference in this photo, with the white being the size we requested)

From what they said it did seem like a legitimate mistake, as they took full responsibility and have offered a refund. While I considered the possibility of offering smaller cards, that would mean reformatting the whole deck, and ultimately it just wouldn't be what we initially offered.

I am currently working on finding a new manufacturer, and I've already had a few responses, so I'm hoping this won't be too much of a delay. I've let them know that I'm willing to pay the extra for air shipping rather than boat to ensure that we can get this fixed as soon as possible.

To those of you with Metal decks, I sincerely hope this won't be too much of a delay, as air shipping is a bit more expensive, but is usually MUCH faster. I apologize for that hiccup! Everything was moving forward so smoothly that I suppose it was inevitable that we'd hit a snag.

Second:
Though we originally intended to print with Print Ninja, their prices increased a bit since the initial campaign so I did some research and found another manufacturer (that had actually reached out at the beginning of the campaign) who can do it for a better price and higher quantity. They seem to have a good track record, so we will be using them instead! It looks like they should be within the timeframe we requested, so everything is on track with the printed decks!

Third:
We will be launching the deck of useful NPC's on October 19th! If you'd like to follow along and be notified on launch,  you can do so right here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/level1gamers/the-deck-of-useful-npcs-goodies-vs-baddies

I'm not sure how to go about it just yet, but I'm going to see if there's a way to include a freebie for backers who have supported both projects. I'm sure there's a way to do something like that in backer kit, but I'll need to do some research on how to make it happen.

And finally, fourth!
We will be at Anime Banzai in Layton, UT next weekend, so if you're a Utah local headed to the con, be sure to swing by the vendor hall and say hi!

That's it for today, thank you so much for your patience as we navigate through the kinks in the manufacturing process!

Printing begins!
over 1 year ago – Mon, Sep 26, 2022 at 04:35:18 AM

Hello everyone!
From here on out updates will likely be a bit farther apart as we are at the point that we will just be dealing with manufacturing and the boring side of things for a bit.

A few things to address:

1. We are mostly done with our con season, with just one more smaller show and then we are done for the year. We had an absolute blast meeting everyone at cons this year, and we cannot wait to do it again next!

Con season took a lot more out of us than anticipated. We are not new to cons, we've been doing it for 7 years actually! However this year was a bit more hectic than we originally thought due to some additional circumstances that resulted in a bigger workload for us. Because of this, it's taken a tad longer than I'd hoped to get to this point, but I'm happy we got here and are still on track.

2. We got some fantastic feedback from everyone that we have implemented in the final deck. Most of it is just some wording updates, but there are some other updates as well, such as any fireball related items being updated to DEX vs CON saves.

Updated files will be uploaded to backer kit soon!

3. We've gotten in touch with our manufacturer to get the process started, but I don't have much on that front as we haven't gotten very far. Essentially we've just gotten them the main info and are currently waiting on them to give us the next steps, timeline, etc. We will keep you posted as we get updates from them. (Hopefully they can get us some pictures before they ship them to us!)

4. Our metal blanks should arrive soon, which means those of you with Metal decks should be getting your decks within the next couple of months. I don't want to over promise, but I am fairly confident we will be getting most of them out before December.

5. Our next deck, the Deck of NPC's, (name TBA) will be launching here on kickstarter soon! Paul has been busy writing up descriptions, backgrounds, details, and more for each and every NPC in the deck. Our goal is to give you a diverse and inclusive cast of NPC's to add to your game, or draw from when you're in a bind and need to quickly introduce a new character. We've brought back the same amazing art team, and some very cool surprises that we are super excited about.

As always, be sure to let me know if there are any questions at all! We appreciate each and every one of you, and I'm excited to get to work with the printer and see these things brought to life. This is our first publishing project, so getting to this point has been an accomplishment that I'm super proud of. We couldn't have done it without the help of our incredible artists, and especially without all of you! We can't wait to keep producing more content for you all to use in your games! Up

Digital Files are now available!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Sep 01, 2022 at 01:48:30 AM

It's time!
I've just submitted the file through backerkit, and you should all be receiving your files here shortly! (If you don't see it yet, please give it until morning and if nothing shows up shoot me a message!)

We really hope you like what we've put together, and I hope you can start using these items in your home games soon!

 A few notes:
If you have any feedback, or notice any spelling or typos, please use the following form to submit your feedback:
 https://forms.gle/NJ63djyGQ3UwbuPf7

These cards CAN be used for livestreamed or recorded games! We just ask that you credit back to Level 1 Gamers in the description. (And feel free to share your streams with us, as we'd love to see the items in action!)

Please DO NOT distribute the PDF file. We may release it digitally after the physical decks have been printed and fulfilled, but in the meantime, we don't want to spread the file around and risk it being copied or used in an unauthorized manner.

That's all for now, I sincerely hope you enjoy the Deck of Useful Things!

By the way, the Naginata of Naps, Cheyenne's Cheese Board of Plenty, Feeling Gray Counseling's Mug of Self- Care, the Cat's Whisker, and the Gripper, were all created by our wonderful Hero Tier backers! I love the creative item that they came up with!

Are you ready? Digital files will be released within 1 week!
over 1 year ago – Wed, Aug 24, 2022 at 11:27:04 PM

Hello everyone!
It's been a little bit longer than I'd hoped to get this update out, but we were absolutely slammed preparing for and vending at Emerald City Comic Con. It was a pleasure to meet our Seattle customers!

We are now back and ready to get this deck finished out and ready for printing!

As of right now, digital copies will be released by August 31st!  Keep an eye on your email, as the files will be distributed through Backerkit. Now again, this is my first time using Backerkit to fulfill, so I'm hoping there aren't any hiccups, but please don't hesitate to reach out if you run into any! The first people to receive the files will be our Hero Tier backers, so that they can see their created cards and make sure they are what they envisioned!

Speaking of, I'd like to give a shout out to our fabulous Hero Tier backers who created some super fun and useful items for the deck! It was a pleasure seeing your ideas, and I hope we did them justice!

So you are aware, the digital file will NOT contain the cards from the booster pack.

When the files are released, I'll put out an update with a feedback form that will allow you to tell us any spelling or grammar errors that may have slipped through, or any general feedback you may have.

Next steps:
Once the digital files are released, I'll have a week or two waiting period before sending the files to the printers. This will allow us to incorporate any feedback that we've received before getting it printed. For anyone curious, we will be printing with PrintNinja, who have given us an estimate of about a month for production, then 5-7 weeks for shipping from the manufacturer. If there are no delays, then that means we should be able to ship on time! However, last year, things got a bit crazy in the ports, so delays are possible, especially with us inching so close to the holidays.

Metal Decks:
Barring any crazy delays, I anticipate we will be getting your decks out before the end of the year, and possibly before the holidays. Once the digital files have gone through the final feedback, we will begin printing the decks and shipping them as we go. Now, we did have FAR more metal decks than I anticipated, (which is AWESOME), so I don't have an exact estimate for when they'll all be finished, but it should definitely be within the next few months.

The Deck of Useful NPC's:
We will plan on launching our next project, a deck of NPC cards, around the beginning of October! This will give us a chance to get everything with this deck finished out and off to the printers.  I think you guys will like what we've got for that one, as we are trying to make sure the deck has a wide range of diverse characters, while still having some fun and quirky humor.

As always, thanks for your support, we couldn't have done this without you! I'm so excited for you guys to see the deck in its entirety!

Feedback from Beta, Items on livestream, and more!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Jul 29, 2022 at 05:08:38 PM

Hello everyone!

We are getting SO CLOSE to finishing up the deck! The artwork is about 80% complete, with the rest anticipated within the next couple of weeks. As soon as we get the last bit of artwork in, we will be releasing the digital edition to everyone, and sending it off to the printers!

Now, based on the feedback of our beta readers, we have made a couple of small updates!

 1. We have decided to remove the EST Value, and swap it out for whether the item requires attunement or not. This will allow DM's to be able to make the determination on value, and make it easier to adjust the value to other gaming systems if necessary. The rarity is already a good way to tell the value thanks to existing game rules, so we felt it was a tad redundant.

 2. Some items have been updated to be more explicit in the time it takes to use it. There were a couple items that were unclear as to whether it was a standard action or not, so we've gone through and made sure it states the action time for every item that requires it!

Other than that, we just corrected a few typos and are now waiting on a couple more folks to read through!

Want to see some of the items in action? One of our beta testers, and a good friend of mine,  Jax Goss from Sparabel productions, will be using the Boots of Ice in a livestream game today! Follow right here to be notified when the game is live:

Backerkit
Digital files for the deck will be distributed through Backerkit! As soon as we publish it there, you should receive an email with details on downloading. Whatever email you submitted on Backerkit will be the email you receive your files on.

Next project:
Based on the feedback we received, the next project will be "The Deck of Useful NPC's: Goodies vs Baddies!" Each deck will contain both goodies and baddies you can use in your campaign to help populate your world! Here's a sneak peek of one of the characters we created as a test!

As soon as the current item deck is released, we will be getting things going on that! We've already started the artwork and nailed down a style, and will be launching a kickstarter for printing costs ideally sometime in September!

Seattle backers and anyone going to ECCC!

We just got the confirmation that we will have a booth at Emerald City Comic Con!
I don't have the booth number just yet, but if you're in Seattle and attending the convention, we would love to meet you!

Thanks everyone, and have a fabulous weekend, especially if it's game night!

And of course, a couple previews ;)
